ACTIVE FLAGNewport Boys National School achieved the Active School Flag in 2017.
This flag recognises schools, like ours, that strive to achieve a physically educated and active. The ASF is a non competitive initiative which highlights the importance of physical activity and sport in school and communities in which they are based. In order to be awarded the Active School Flag schools must: 1. Commit to a process of self evaluation in terms of the PE programmes and physical opportunities that they offer. 2. Plan and implement a series of changes that will enhance PE and extracurricular provision and promote physical activity. This school has a strong tradition of sports and activity and is fully committed to the process of acquiring the flag. The school staff will work hard this year to implement the necessary enhancements and self evaluation procedures to achieve the goal. A healthy lifestyle is vital for a child's well-being and keeping fit is an important part of this. Physical Education (PE) provides children with learning opportunities through the medium of movement and contributes to their overall development by helping them to lead full, active and healthy lives. As well as enjoying a wide range of activities in PE and games in school , we participate in inter school competitions and tournaments such as - Cross Country Events (Athletics) - Primary Schools Sports (Athletics) - GAA - Munster youth Development programme - Tennis Coaching - Tag Rugby Blitz - Aquatics -Dancing. Go NoodleAll classes in the school are getting active in the classroom with Go Noodle. Go Noodle is a series of activities for the classroom, designed to get pupils moving on the spot for 5 – 10 minutes at a time. These activities are great for waking the children up during the day and getting their heart rates up after they’ve been working hard at their desks. The children love these classroom exercises and the teachers don’t mind getting up and moving either.
