Dear Parents,
Because of Covid restrictions this year, we were unable to host any Christmas play. However the boys have written, drawn and produced three lovely Christmas stories. They have put a lot of work into these stories and I hope you all enjoy them. They are also available on the school website.
I have sent home some books with them today, just in case the Covid situation changes.
I'd like to thank the boys for working so hard this year, and you their parents for being so supportive and helpful in their education.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,
Liam Noonan

Shadow Drawing in the yard
Today we had great fun drawing the outline of our
shadows onto the tarmac in the yard. We learned the
following things:
Sunrise occurs in the West
Sunset occurs in the East
Our shadow outlines were long because the sun was low in the sky.
As the day continues, our shadows will get shorter and change direction.
It was great fun!

Halloween Bats!
Today we began preparing for Halloween by creating
Halloween Bats. We made them by cutting out the outline
of a bat on paper; sticking the bat outline to a piece of
black chart paper, and drawing around the outline with
chalk pastels. Finally, we used our fingers to spread the
pastels out from the bat. After we removed the bat
outline, we had a scary bat shape ready for Halloween!

Trip to Canon's/Lacy's Well and the Ball Alley
Today we visited Canon's/Lacy's Well and then later on went to the Ball Alley.
Canon's/Lacy's Well is a local well which was used by locals right up to the 1940's, before the introduction of a piped water supply within Newport town. It was an important meeting area for people to draw fresh water and meet their neighbours.
The Ball Alley is the location of one of Newport's earliest schools (1879). The school building was later converted into a handball alley for the use of local children. It is now a scenic, park with lovely views of the old bridge over the Mulcair river.
