**NEW**
RTE2 are launching a Home School Hub suitable from 1st to 6th Classes from Monday the 30th of March. Classes will start each morning from 11 a.m to 12 p.m. They will also direct kids to fun content and projects on rte.ie/learn.  

P.E with Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) - Live on his YouTube Channel everyday at 9 a.m children can join in on the fun to start their day off the right way!

Read everyday. 
  • You can access books through BorrowBox online. Lots of free books to read on Oxford Owl also.    Twinkl Original books - click here
  • The boys can continue with their My Spelling Workbook programme. Start a new week next week and stick to the normal activities - 4 words per night, exercise 1 and put the 4 words into sentences. 
  • Children can research a favourite character, superhero or sports person and write facts about them. 
  • Children can write an imaginative story with a title of their choice (remember a story should have a main character, a setting i.e in the deep dark forest/in an enchanted castle and a plot/problem).
  • Children can write about a movie they watched or write a review of the movie. 
  • Children can write an acrostic poem about Spring and any topic of their choice.
  • Children can write the instructions to a game they have played or write the instructions/procedure of something they have baked. 
  • Other writing activities can include: writing a different ending for a story, write about a fun day they had and write about their favourite animal or a special time/holiday they had. 
  • Reading - www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ . This website is free and has lots of age appropriate e-books for children to read on their tablets etc. You can join it as a parent and choose the child's age bracket. 
  • Children should continue reading and they can write about their books, their favourite character/part and write a book review. 
  • Children should read books aloud for parents to listen to and also retell the story in their own words.
  • sightwords.com/ is also another free website that children can use to revise reading their high frequency words and there are lots of printable games too. 

SESE (History, Geography & Science)

  • www.cjfallon.ie/ are offering parents free access to the children's workbooks. You can scale the options down to Primary - 2nd Class - SESE - Small World and view the Spring Section of this book.
  • The boys can go on a Spring Walk and record all of the signs of spring they see and draw pictures of them. 
  • They can research the life cycle of a butterfly and also plant seeds. ( please complete  page 81 & 82 of their Small World )
  • Children can observe, examine and draw and label the parts of a daffodil. 
  • Children can design and make bird feeders using household materials.
  • www.twinkl.ie/ a free website for parents have a huge variety of resources available for all subject areas. Worksheets and Power Points can be downloaded to aid the children's learning in any of these areas.  
  • The children can also create a project of their own choice.

  • The boys can draw still-life drawings of objects in their homes for example sketch the fruit bowl, sketch a daffodil or other flowers from observation.

Try doing the usual week of Mental Maths   Check back over previous questions if you get stuck - we might have done a similar question already.

  • Do this Daily Ten game (missing numbers up to 20). You can try different games and levels if you're getting full marks. 
  • Play this place value game. It's a very short one!
  • There is also loads of tables and number games on Hit the Button game

  • Choose a couple of other activities during the week if you have time

  • Children can continue to do their skip counting (counting in 2's/3's/4's/5's/6's/10's) in an active way (jumping jacks etc while counting).
  • Noggle - write out 12 numbers in a box and let the children write as many sums as possible using the numbers (they can do this using addition and subtraction).
  • numberock.com offers lots of fun videos and games on various Maths topics as well as downloadable worksheets.

Gaeilge 

  • The boys can practice their Gaeilge through speaking and having little conversations daily as we usually do in school. 
  • The boys can actively count as Gaeilge. 
  • The boys can revise the topics of 'ar scoil, éadaí, an aimsir, bia, mé féin agus caitheamh aimsire (hobbies) by drawing pictures and labelling as many things as they can. 
  • The boys can revise their topics in their irish folder.
  • Children can try to name as many things as Gaeilge in their homes and rooms.

Physical Education

  • The boys can engage in a variety of physical activities such as walking, jogging, cycling and playing games outside while also keeping social distancing in mind.
  • Traditional outdoor games such as playing football, skipping, basketball, Donkey and more are important for fresh air. 
  • Newport GAA have lovely fun hurling drills on Twitter, they are great fun.
  • Children should set challenges for themselves and do mini-workouts including lunges, leg raises, jumping jacks, planking competitions, elbow to knees, high knees, squats, push ups and burpees. 
  • www.gonoodle.com offers a variety of physical activity videos and also meditation/mindfulness videos. 
  • Children can follow the 'Body Coach' and play his videos online or via YouTube.
  • Do a Cosmic Kids Yoga video (www.cosmickids.com).

Dear Old Newport Town

Second class visited different important locations in Newport including Canon's Well and Old Boy's school and handball alley. We created our own map of Newport.
